Shizuoka City & Mount Fuji

For Fuji views and tea.

Miho no Matsubara, a pine-lined beach facing Mount Fuji, is part of the Fuji World Heritage site. Nihondaira plateau and the tea fields near Fuji City offer more views; Kunozan Toshogu enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Fuji is clearest on winter mornings; in summer it is often hidden by haze.

Before you go

Food

Try green tea, Shizuoka oden, eel in Hamamatsu, sakura shrimp and wasabi.

Where to stay

Choose Atami, Ito or Shuzenji for hot springs, Shizuoka City for Fuji views, or Hamamatsu for a Shinkansen stopover.

Getting around

Kodama and Hikari stop at more Shizuoka stations than Nozomi. Izu has the JR Ito Line, Izukyu and Izuhakone Railway.
