What this area is like
Okuhida Onsen-go is a group of five hot-spring villages, including Hirayu and Shin-Hotaka, known for open-air baths. The Shinhotaka Ropeway, with double-decker gondolas, climbs to about 2,150 metres for views of the Northern Alps.

Nohi buses run from Takayama in about an hour; Hirayu is also the bus gateway to Kamikochi.
