What this area is like
A pine-covered sandbar crosses Miyazu Bay at Amanohashidate. Up the coast, Ine’s boathouses line the water, and Maizuru keeps red-brick naval warehouses.
Stay a night to see both the sandbar and Ine without rushing.

Places to see in this area
Amanohashidate View Land
A hilltop park on the south side of the bay with the classic view of Amanohashidate, the pine-covered sandbar counted among Japan’s three most scenic views.
- Access
- About 5 minutes on foot from Amanohashidate Station (Kyoto Tango Railway); a chairlift or monorail goes up to the top.
- Hours
- Generally 9:00–17:00; 8:30–18:00 from mid-July to mid-September, and 9:00–16:30 from mid-November to mid-February. Open every day.
- Fee
- Adults ¥850; children ¥450, including the round-trip lift or monorail. Rides in the park cost extra.
- Address
- 437 Monju, Miyazu, Kyoto
Try the local custom of matanozoki: turn your back to the view and look at it upside down between your legs, and the sandbar seems to float in the sky.
Ine Bay Sightseeing Boat
A short cruise past the funaya of Ine, wooden boathouses with living space above that line the edge of the bay.
- Access
- Bus from Amanohashidate Station to the Ine-wan Meguri / Hide stop; the pier is a short walk away.
- Hours
- Daily 9:00–16:00, leaving on the hour and half hour. The cruise lasts about 25 minutes.
- Fee
- Adults ¥1,200; elementary school ¥600.
- Address
- 11 Hide, Ine-cho, Yosa District, Kyoto
Ine is a living fishing village. Walk the lanes quietly and do not go into private boathouses unless they are open as shops or cafés.
Maizuru Red Brick Park
Brick warehouses built for the former naval port, now reused as a museum, event halls and shops.
- Access
- About 20 minutes on foot from JR Higashi-Maizuru Station.
- Hours
- 9:00–17:00. Closed 29 December–3 January.
- Fee
- The grounds are free. The Red Brick Museum charges adults ¥400.
- Address
- 1039-2 Kitasui, Maizuru, Kyoto
A guided tour visits buildings that are usually closed; it needs a reservation.
How to plan your time here
- Cross the sandbar on foot or by rented bicycle; it is about 3.6 km long. View Land is on the station side and Kasamatsu Park looks down from the north side.
- Ine needs about half a day by bus. Staying a night in Amanohashidate or Ine makes the trip much calmer than a day trip from Kyoto.
