Ueno Park · choose one museum

Use the park as a frame for the day rather than a checklist of every museum. Choose a long museum visit or a lighter park-and-shopping outing; combining both changes the time needed.

Address
Uenokoen, Taito City
Access
JR Ueno Station Park Exit is a practical starting point. Other operators and exits have different approaches.
Time to allow
45–90 minutes outdoors; allow another 2–3 hours for a major museum as an editorial planning allowance
Hours
The park is open continuously. Museum, zoo and shop calendars are separate.
Cost
The park walk is free; museums, special exhibitions and the zoo have separate tickets.

A simple way to visit

  1. Arrive via the station exit closest to the chosen museum.
  2. Visit that museum or take a park walk, leaving time for a break.
  3. Return for a meal; add Ameyoko only if there is time.

Make the most of your visit

Pick the museum and exhibition before choosing a day; do not assume all facilities share the same closed day or ticket.

Rainy-day planning

A museum is a useful rainy-day focus if it is open and tickets are available. Travel between the station and museum remains outdoors.
