Mount Takao: cable car and a shorter walk

Use the cable car to reduce the climb, then choose how far to walk on the upper mountain. A shorter turnaround is a valid plan; reaching the summit is optional.

Hours
Cable-car and lift timetables vary by season and day. Check the last descent before starting to walk.
Cost
Published adult return fare for cable car or lift: ¥980. Food and other facilities are separate.

A simple way to visit

  1. Choose the walk and latest safe return time.
  2. Use the cable car, then reassess your energy and weather.
  3. Turn around in good time, with a buffer for the descent queue.

Make the most of your visit

The cable car reaches the middle of the mountain, not the summit. Wear walking shoes, carry water and turn back before fatigue or fading light.

Rainy-day planning

If wind, rain or trail conditions are poor, replace the mountain visit with a town day. Check operation and route notices.
