Lake Okutama: a dam-side visit

Choose a lake-view stop around the dam and return by bus. A short viewpoint visit is different from the long south-shore hiking routes.

Lake Okutama / Ogouchi Dam area, Okutama
Access
Travel from JR Okutama by a bus serving the lake. Check the destination, timetable and return stop; the lake is not immediately outside the station.
Time to allow
60–90 minutes for a short dam-side visit, plus buses and waiting
Hours
Plan in daylight and according to bus times. Visitor facilities and walking routes have separate schedules and closures.
Cost
Lake scenery has no general admission ticket. Bus fares, meals and paid activities are separate.

A simple way to visit

  1. Choose a return bus before leaving the station.
  2. Stay within a short, currently open dam-side area.
  3. Return to the stop early rather than adding a long lakeside walk.

Make the most of your visit

The official Ikoi-no-Michi route is a 12 km, roughly four-hour hike with seasonal opening. Do not add it to a short sightseeing stop without a separate plan.

Rainy-day planning

Wind, rain or bus disruption are reasons to shorten or change the day. Check current local notices before leaving.
