What this area is like
Wakayama Castle stands in the city centre. From Kada, ferries cross to Tomogashima, whose brick fort ruins in the forest draw photographers, and Awashima Shrine is filled with dolls. On the Kishigawa Line, a cat serves as stationmaster at Kishi Station.
Plan your visit
Wakayama is about an hour from Osaka by JR or Nankai; the Kada ferry does not run in some weather.
