What this area is like
Kumagawa-juku is a post town on the old mackerel road to Kyoto. Obama has many old temples and makes most of Japan’s lacquered chopsticks, the Rainbow Line road looks over the Mikata Five Lakes, and Tsuruga has a museum on the refugees saved by Sugihara’s visas.
Plan your visit
Tsuruga is on the Hokuriku Shinkansen; the JR Obama Line runs west along the coast.
