What this area is like
Kokusai-dori is the main shopping street, with the Makishi Public Market nearby. Shuri Castle, the former royal palace, burned in 2019; the main hall is being rebuilt, and the grounds stay open. Check the official site for which buildings can be entered.
The Yui Rail monorail connects Naha Airport, Kokusai-dori and Shuri.

How to plan your time here
- Shuri Castle in the morning, then the monorail back to Makishi for lunch at the market and an afternoon on Kokusai-dori.
- The monorail links the airport, Kokusai-dori and Shuri, so Naha works without a car. Rent one only for the trip north.
