What this area is like
Tsumago is a beautifully preserved post town on the old Nakasendo road, and the 8 km trail to Magome is a classic walk. Akasawa’s natural cypress forest is called the birthplace of forest bathing, and Mount Ontake rises to the west.

Take the JR Chuo Line to Nagiso, then a short bus ride to Tsumago; baggage forwarding runs on the trail in season.
