What this area is like
Hita’s Mameda-machi keeps Edo-period merchant houses, and cormorant fishing runs on its river in summer. Amagase Onsen has open-air baths along the river, and Yabakei Gorge has strange rock peaks and the hand-dug Ao-no-Domon tunnel.
