Asuka was the capital before Nara: cycle past the huge stone tomb of Ishibutai and the Takamatsuzuka mural tomb. Kashihara Jingu honours the first emperor, Omiwa Shrine worships Mount Miwa itself, and Hasedera is famous for its peonies.
